My 10 little jewels of pure happiness

“I feel like people get lost when they think of happiness as a destination. We always think that someday we’ll be happy. When we get that car or that job or that person in our lives who will fix everything. But happiness is a mood and it’s a condition. Not a destination. It’s like being tired or hungry. It’s not permanent. It comes and goes and that’s OK. And if people would think that way, they’d find happiness more often.”

I’d love to say I wrote that, but it’s actually a quote from the iconic tv show ‘One Tree Hill’ (Sophia, if you’re reading this, you obvs knew that already, ha!) I may not have written it, but it’s definitely a thought that stuck with me since I heard it. I don’t know about you but I’m definitely guilty of sometimes focusing so hard on ‘being happy’ that I forget to enjoy the little things that make me purely happy.

I’ve compiled a list of things in my life that make me puuuurely happy to remind me on those days where it seems like nothing’s going right. So in no particular order…

turning up at my parents’ house unannounced and seeing both their cars on the drive – most likely meaning the whole family is home

the smell of a real life book – I will never convert to kindle, you can’t make me!

the perfect cuppa – dependant on strength, temperature and most importantly the mug (Tom is yet to master the art of perfect-tea making lololol)

mine & my little brother’s secret goodnight handshake

seeing Tom’s cheesy grin – which he doesn’t like but I would say is my fave thing about him

sitting in my pjays & surrounding myself with candles at home (esssspecially on cold winter mornings)

my baby cousin’s cheeky giggle

flowers – giving them, receiving them, smelling them (everything about them!)

Derek willingly jumping up onto the sofa for cuddles

full on belly laughing with friends – y’know that feeling when you check for abs afterward calming yourselves down

One thing that hit me after writing this list, were the things that didn’t make it. Not once did I think about writing down: my phone, instagram, online shopping, my new boots etc! Basically, stuff, in the grand scheme of things means so little! & that’s something I need to bare in mind when I get caught up about the silly things in life.

Hope you’re all having a lovely cosy Sunday night, mine is being spent with family (with lots candles of course) watching dancing on ice!

Have a think what you’re little jewels of happiness are (I bet they’re not the things you’d expect them to be)

xxxx
